Letter Updates!

Here are two letters Ryan has sent home! :) Enjoy!

May 19,2011

We received our first letter from Elder Mortimer. So I will share it…
These last few days have been so amazing. I love it here so far. The first night here, we had three ”investigators” and watched some elders teach them. The first one taught was a huge black guy that was really against the church. I felt I really needed to say something. So I talked about how he served in the military and I ‘m in the ROTC program. He also felt hate against him because he is black so I brought up the scripture Samuel 16:7 How the Lord looks on the heart not the outside. I talked about the church’s persecution.  It was so amazing to say the things that came to my mind.
I know this is where I am supposed to be. I love the feeling here so much. The gospel is true. I have felt the spirit so strong. I know this work is called of God. I can tell this already. There is no place I would rather be than serving my mission.

Elder Russell M. Nelson came to talk to us at an evening devotional. How cool is that? Here is a great quote that you will love…”It is better to have character than be a character.” Tell all the young men in the stake. Elder Nelson was awesome.  I am so glad I can receive the wonderful blessings of the MTC. When Elder Nelson stood in front of us he smiled and waved at us. He said the last person he saw was Pres. Monson and he specifically told me to tell you…that he loves you and is so pleased with your willingness to serve.  He also told us the habits we form on our mission are ones that will be with us for eternity. Our purpose is to establish God’s kingdom here on the earth.  How plain and simple that is. So pure and direct. That is truly our purpose as missionaries of the Lord and Jesus Christ. This was so cool and a great experience.

His wife spoke and this is what she said,” if you follow with exactness these four things you will receive  1) keep the adversary away from you 2) have access to the Lords power 3) keep the Holy Ghost as a companion 24/7 and 4) When you ask for the Lords angels to help you they will.  Every rule you don’t want to follow, was a rule made just for you.

A sister missionary came up to me and asked if I was from Wisconsin. She said, “no, way I know your dad and I love him!” her name is Sister Moody from the Single Adult Ward. It was so funny.

I will leave the MTC on June 6, not June 8, 2011 I have had many cool experiences while in discussion about the gospel. The work truly is the Lords work. The miracle of the Lords work is truly amazing. I love it I have gained so much knowledge. Such a great feeling. The gospel is true. How could I ever deny such a thing. I cannot and will not. The Lord and savior Jesus Christ did die for our sins. I know that now more than ever.

Tell the family, my ward, the stake, and friends I love them. Thanks for all the letters and packages! I love them!

Love, Elder Mortimer
